for Civic Engagement
AUB
Mounir Mabsout has served as the director of the Center of
Civic Engagement and Community Service (CCECS) at the American University of
Beirut (AUB) since March 2008. He is also a professor of Civil Engineering at
AUB which he joined in 1991 after receiving his PhD from the University of
Texas at Austin. He chaired the Task Force for Reconstruction and Community
Service which the president of AUB established during the July 2006 war on
Lebanon to ascertain the university's role in relieving the human suffering
from the effects of the war; the aim of the task force evolved to set a
long-term strategy for AUB to be engaged with the community, which led to the
creation of the CCECS. He is actively involved in directing civic activities
and community projects, and is leading the initiative to establish
community-based learning at AUB. He has numerous technical publications in
structural engineering and is co-authoring a book on highway bridges as well as
a few thematic publications and book chapter on AUB and civic engagement.
