Gary Rynhart is the International Labour
Organizations’ senior Employers Specialist for the Arab States based in Beirut.
Working with national representatives of the private sector in 12 states in the
region he deals with a wide portfolio of issues that impact on the private
sector. Previously he was a senior employer’s specialist at the ILO’s
headquarters in Geneva where most of his work focused on policy development for
national representative organizations of the private sector. He has written and
produced extensive material and publications on the topic.
He was previously a senior Policy Adviser with
the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) based in Geneva. Most of this
work revolved around employment and globalization policies. This involved developing and drafting IOE
statements to major ILO and other UN meetings such as the UN Social Development
Commission; UN Economic and Social Council; major General Assembly
debates; and at other fora such as G8
Employment and Labour Ministers’ meetings.
He was IOE adviser to the UN
Secretary-General’s High Level Panel on Youth Employment; the ILO’s World
Commission on the Social Dimension of Globalization; and the World Trade
Organization’s Business Advisory Body. He authored the IOE’s inaugural global
trends in the workplace survey.
Previously he had worked for the Irish Business
and Employers Confederation (IBEC) as an executive in their Economics, Research
& Information Division. Much of this
work with IBEC was concerned with the ramifications for Irish business of
economic and monetary union in Europe.
Previously he worked for the European Movement
which is an institution that seeks to influence the policy process and
promoting public debate on EU issues in Ireland as a press officer.
